PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Special Libraries Association (SLA) was founded on July 3, 1909, in order support "libraries serving business, government, social agencies and parts of the academic community"; and
WHEREAS, special librarians and information professionals are information resource experts who collect, analyze, evaluate, package, and disseminate information to facilitate accurate decision-making in corporate, academic, and government settings; and
WHEREAS, SLA has become the global organization for innovative information professionals and their strategic partners; and
WHEREAS, SLA continues to deliver on its mission to promote and strengthen its members through learning, advocacy, and networking initiatives; and
WHEREAS, today, over 600 Illinois information professionals are members of SLA and the global membership runs to more that 11,000 professionals in over 80 nations; and
WHEREAS, on May 27, 2009, members, friends and admirers of SLA will mark a century of service with a special event at Chicago's Union League Club:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICHARD M. DALEY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO, do hereby proclaim May 27, 2009, to be SPECIAL LIBRARIES ASSOCIATION DAY IN CHICAGO and urge all Chicagoans to recognize the outstanding contributions this organization has made to information services over the past one hundred years.
