Special Libraries: Surveying Your Unique Constituencies

As more special libraries need to demonstrate their impact on organizations, customer surveys become increasingly important. These surveys can determine who is using the library, how it’s being used and desired improvements in the library. Armed with quantitative data, special libraries can better plan for their users and prove their value to organizations.

This session will consist of two parts.

• Part 1 will familiarize participants with the basics for creating reliable and actionable surveys: how to set objectives, when and how to survey customers, how to avoid common pitfalls in survey design and analysis.

• Part 2 will be devoted to participants’ questions about and experiences with research. Bring us your thorniest survey issue, and we’ll provide our thoughts on it.

Presenters are Donna E. Fletcher, President, Donna E. Fletcher Consulting, Inc. and Larry Hammond, Principal, Research in Marketing, Inc.

Each speaker has over 25 years of experience in survey and focus group research. Donna Fletcher is a former library trustee and board president in Highland Park, IL. The firms have conducted numerous surveys and focus groups for libraries throughout Illinois and have presented workshops at the Illinois Library Association, Ohio Library Council and various Illinois library systems.

For more information about the presenters visit www.librarysurveys.org.
