Illinois Chapter member receives DuPage Library System award!

Deborah Buschmann of the BP Research Library in Warrenville was recognized by DuPage Library System on May 18th with the Support Staff Award, one of only three awards given by the system as part of their "DLS Day" celebration each year. SLA Illinois Chapter would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Debbie for receiving this award for her 35-year tenure as the "face of library services" at the main desk in the BP Library, as well as for representing the "specials" of the system so well. What's next, Debbie, Disneyworld?

News from the SLA Leadership Summit in Savannah

Katrina Perez and I absorbed lots of news and got a preview of Centennial events for the annual conference and the year at the SLA Leadership Summit in Savannah, Georgia January 14-16. Of course, the economy was at the top of everyone's mind. The folks at SLA are shouldering their share of the burden in not taking cost-of-living increases in their salaries and by paying a higher share of their medical premiums. At the same time, initiatives have been taken by the association to help members in various ways, a few of which I'll outline here:
